Mardis de l’ESSEC

The Mardis de l’ESSEC conference took place on ESSEC Campus in France* on Tuesday June 18th, 2019. The event started at 8 pm (France time) /  2 pm (USA – East Coast time) / 11 am (USA – Pacific Coast time).

In a context of contested negotiations with the Taliban and to discuss the social situation, politics, development, security and governance in Afghanistan, this conference brought together around these fifteen high level Afghan Women LeadersMr. Staffan de Mistura, Former United Nations Special Envoy for Syria and Head of the UN Mission in Afghanistan; and H.E. Omar Samad, Former Ambassador of Afghanistan in France, Senior Fellow at the  Atlantic Council.

A first part (60 minutes) was dedicated to questions asked by the journalists of Mardis de l’ESSEC around themes such as:
– the current situation in Afghanistan (economy, education, health, women’s issues, etc.),
– the evolution of the situation in Afghanistan in recent years (the role of the Taliban, the peace process, the international community, and the neighboring countries, etc.),
– and the vision for the near future.

A second part (about 60 minutes) was dedicated to questions and answers with the audience in the conference room in France and abroad through the live webcast.
